Actor Vaaragi, who is the producer of the film Siva Manasula Pushpa spoke to the press yesterday about the film and the problems with the censor board. The film has been running into issues because of its title and possible political references associated with it. The movie is directed and produced by Vaaragi and is also the lead actor. Shivaani is the female lead and plays the role of Pushpa in this.
Talking to the press about this, he said: "We sent the film for censorship and they asked me to come the next day with the changes suggested. I followed suit, but they delayed the process. When I asked for reasons for the delay, they said the film has gone to the chairman for further scrutiny. Usually Tamil films get censored at the regional office itself. A week later they asked me to change the name of the film and the lead characters. They did not even specify why I had to change the names! After all, they are common names."
He further went on to state that there was dirty politics inside the board. "The board has members who are sons of politicians or wives of officers, auditors who have influence. If these people are members of the censor board, it is very difficult to run business in this industry. A film like Kabali, which had a lot of violent scenes got away with a U/A certificate. There is a film called Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu which released recently. Does the censor board know what the film is about? A film called Pallu Padama Pathu Seinga is going to go on floors. Does the board not know what it means? There is bias towards big productions while small films like mine suffers." added Vaaragi.
