KABALI AND THERI WILL NOT HAVE A TV PREMIERE!

The power of social media is immense and in this digital era we are all set to witness a new dimension of Tamil cinema. Yes. We will now be seeing Tamil films legally through online media and one such will be Amazon Prime Video India. The films will be streamed only after 100 days after the film's theatrical release.
 

The first two films that will be available through Amazon stream is this year's top most grossers of Tamil cinema, Kabali, and Theri. Talking about this new move, noted producer and trade analyst Dhananjayan said, "They are digitally screening the film because the satellite process is not happening. This will definitely help in more revenue for the producer. These films, which are being sold to online media like Amazon, might not have its television premiere in the near future."

While asking if this new process will have a good reception with the audience, he said, "Any experimentation you do, will take some time to come to practicality. For example, when people were told to switch from cables to DTH, many didn't want to. But today, almost everyone has moved on with DTH services. Amazon is very confident about it. They are going to be aggressive in offering new films at low rentals for a month. When you get a package of films at a low cost, people will surely subscribe. 

This will be an option to watch films through online legally, instead of opting for piracy. The internet and social media are mostly consumed by youngsters and teenagers and this will have a good welcome among them. The package rates are not yet finalized, I suppose. Once they come out with the package rates, we will get more clarity about this. I am not sure if this will reduce the piracy because the window (time gap of 100 days after the theatrical release) is quite long. If the window is short, piracy can be reduced to an extent."

Looks like Kabali and Theri will not have its television premiere in the near future and the only option would be to watch the film online through Amazon legally. It is also said that films like Joker and Kaashmora will be made available in a few months. A good and innovative move indeed!
