Priyanka Chopra who featured on the cover of a popular Indian magazine received criticism for the sleeveless top she was seen sporting in the pic. Her tee had the following words imprinted on them - “Refugee, immigrant, outsider, traveler.” The fact that the words refugee, immigrant, and outsider were stricken out in the print was perceived as hurting the sentiments of refugees.
The actress has come out with an explanation as to why she accepted to do the photo shoot for the magazine : “hey (magazine) specially got this (t-shirt) made and implored me to wear it. They said they were addressing xenophobia which is a big issue that is happening. So their idea was that. And I bought into it, I guess. And I am really, really apologetic about the fact that sentiments were hurt … The point the magazine wanted to make was actually something good.”
For the uninitiated, xenophobia refers to prejudice against people from other countries.
