With many movies opting for theatrical release ever since big screens opened in Tamil Nadu on August 23, the TN Theatre Owners Association has put its foot down and put out a strong statement for movies directly releasing on OTT platforms and in theatres.
September first week alone will see the release of two big movies on screens - Vijay Sethupathi's 'Laabam' on September 9 and Kangana Ranaut's 'Thalaivi on September 10. The biopic of former late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was postponed several times before a theatrical release was confirmed on the eve of Vinayagar Chaturthi.
Ahead of the release, reports were also doing rounds about the much-anticipated film running into trouble with theatre owners as the makers had planned an OTT release within two weeks of the release on big screens. There were also other reports that stated that Suriya's blockbuster 'Soorarai Pottru' and Arya's recent hit 'Sarpatta Parambarai' might be re-released in theatres to recreate the experience on big screens.
Dismissing the arrangements, theatre owners released a statement asserting that films released directly on OTT platforms will not be screened in theatres. They also said Producers should release their films on OTT platforms only after four weeks of theatrical release.
