Actress Nithya Menen will be essaying the role of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa, in her biopic titled 'The Iron Lady'. The project will be helmed by Priyadhaarshini and was formally announced last year.
Recently, the director issued a press release regarding the current status of the film. In the statement, Priyadhaarshini stated that helming a biopic is a challenging task as the genre poses many challenges such as sourcing the authentic information related to the subject material, scripting and so on. She believed that the perseverance and meticulousness is necessary for creating the film.
Priyadhaarshini also emphasized on the importance of casting in this film "Only a perfect casting team can help each other in building the narrative of a biopic and at the same time bring to life on screen the essence of their real life counterparts. There is a huge responsibility that lies ahead of me to meet all these quality demands."
Regarding Nithya Menen's casting Priyadhaarshini stated "From sharing similar facial features to emanating a graceful and charming personality, Nithya Menen naturally embodies many personality traits that Amma herself exhibited. She has the iron will that Amma had and can speak six languages fluently just the way Amma could be. She, like Amma, is also trained in Bharathnatyam and vocal carnatic music since childhood."
Priyadhaarshini concluded by saying that the updates regarding the film's cast will be interesting and exciting. The project will be bankrolled by Papertale Pictures.
