Ponniyin Selvan, which has been the dream project of many filmmakers over several decades, is the adaptation of the classic novel of the same same, by renowned author Kalki Krishnamurthy. Helmed by Mani Ratnam, the magnum opus has great anticipation and hype among fans as the novel has been celebrated by book lovers over many generations.
The prestigious project has been shot across India and the final schedules of the film were shot in Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad. The final scenes were shot in Pollachi. With this the first part of the film has been wrapped up, said the makers. While Jayam Ravi wrapped up shooting for the two-part movie first, Vikram and Karthi's portions were also wrapped up and the stars took to social media to update fans about the same.
The makers, who had earlier unveiled two posters of the movie, have now revealed a brand new poster featuring the release details. The poster, which now has a new sword illustration amidst a black background, has the title embossed in bold gold font. The tamil poster looks akin to the font of the novel. With the filming complete and post-production work already started, Madras Talkies, announced that the first part of the movie (PS-1) will hit the big screens in the Summer of 2022.

'Ponniyin Selvan' boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Kishore, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman and a whole set of other stars.
Ponniyin Selvan is being jointly bankrolled by Allirajah Subaskaran and Mani Ratnam, under their Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners. Ravi Varman cranks the camera for the movie, Sreekar Prasad is taking care of the editing and the music is composed by AR Rahman. The film also has Brinda Master on board as the choreographer while Sham Kaushal will be handling the action sequences.
