One film which has been widely on the lookout for takers for a remake is Premam. Though the film’s Telugu remake is underway with Naga Chaitanya in the lead along with Shruti Hassan, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran, a Tamil remake of the same is yet to be signed.
Media has been, for a long time now, shooting in the dark about various producers having brought the Tamil remake rights of the film. Dhanush, for example, was widely rumoured about as planning to produce the Tamil remake with Vijay Sethupathi. Recently, ripples stating that some producers had planned to buy the remake rights keeping Simbu in mind as the lead also surfaced. Things being the way they are, there still isn’t a solid confirmation of anyone as planning to remake Premam in Tamil. Why?
The reason is partly because Premam is a phenomenon which has already been widely welcomed, witnessed and wowed at by the Tamil audience. Remakes already having the risk tag of not being able to match the original version, a Premam remake surely carries a higher risk. In the words of Selvaraghavan, “As for remaking Premam, only one person can do it justice. That’s one and only Alphonse Puthren. Others shouldn’t even try.”
