A few weeks back, we reported an exciting news that the recent Bollywood film, Newton starring Rajkummar Rao is an active part of the Oscar race. The film received ultimately positive reviews from critics and has already bagged a few essential awards at film festivals. But, some shocking news comes our way today.
It is reported that Newton is officially out of the contention from the 90th Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAAS) has apparently announced that the Amit Masurkar directorial is not included in the nine-film line-up, which progresses to the next round of voting.
India has scored the region’s top acting award for the second consecutive year with the
announcement of Rajkummar Rao as the winner of the prestigious 11th Asia Pacific Screen Award (APSA) for Best Performance by an Actor for his role in Newton.
Newton also picked up the Best Screenplay award for writer Mayank Tewari and writer/director Amit V Masurkar. Both Rao and Tewari were present to accept the awards on the night.
Nominated for Achievement in Directing for Sexy Durga, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan also attended the Awards in Brisbane.
