The last few weeks have seen no new Tamil releases in Kollywood and the ongoing Tamil cinema strike is still underway, with no definite end decided to it. At this point, it is quite hard to say which would be the films that would release in the next few weeks.
However, director Karthik Subbaraj’s Mercury starring Prabhu Deva is being marketed as a ‘no language’ thriller right from its posters and teaser. In fact, the movie has been told to be a silent film and this would mean that it cannot be classified as a Tamil film, though it is being made by a Tamil filmmaker. The makers had announced that April 13, 2018 would be the release date for Mercury. However, whether they would stick to support the cinema strike and pull out from their decision to release Mercury on April 13 or if they would decide to go ahead with the release on the proposed film release date is something we would have to wait for to find out. As of now, it seems possible for the ‘no language’ film Mercury to hit screens on April 13. We shall have to wait for an official confirmation regarding the same.
