Actress Manjima Mohan, who rose to fame in Kollywood through AYM with Simbu, is eagerly awaiting the release of her Sathriyan starring Vikram Prabhu. In an exclusive interview with Behindwoods, Manjima Mohan opens up about working with Simbu, Vikram Prabhu, Udhayanidhi Stalin and also on her fitness regime:
What does your name ‘Manjima’ mean?
Actually a lot of people never used to get my name. In fact they used to call me Monkey-ma and all. But when I asked dad, he told me Manjima means beautiful. I cross checked and found out that it was true.
What are your expectations from Sathriyan?
Sathriyan has me playing a very different character compared to the urban girl I played in Simbu’s AYM. I play a rural based character who uses no English words and hence I had to work really hard on my lines for the lip sync.
About working with Simbu, Vikram Prabhu and Udhayanidhi Stalin:
All 3 of them are from huge families that have been in cinema for many years. At first I thought they would not be very friendly because of their big backgrounds. But I realised they are really sweet people and they are very down to earth. It was enjoyable working with all the 3 stars.
Are you still a foodie?
Yes I am. I am still a foodie. However, I hit the gym just for the sake of fitness and feeling good about myself. Some of the directors told me I don’t have to reduce weight and said this was fine. But if the character demands me to, I would love to lose weight. In fact, in the middle, I felt very fat and depressed and this made me take up gym seriously and I reduced quite a little. Even now, I am up for any experimentation if the character demands.
