Malayalam playback singer Gayatri Asokan got married to professional sitar player and composer Purbayan Chatterjee in Kerala on 4th December 2016. Purbayan a Bengali married Gayatri in a traditional Kerala wedding at Thrissur.
Gayatri, a trained Carnatic singer began her career by singing for the legendary music director Raveendran Master, for the Mammootty starrer Arayannangalude Veedu in the year 2000. She then went on to get the Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer in 2003. Her notable songs are "Pularumo" from Ritu, "Enthe Ni Kanna" from Sasneham Sumitra, "Kannil vaathil" from Mulla and "Chanjadi Aadi" from Makalkku (which was also sung by Adnan Sami).
