The highly anticipated Malayalam film Godha starring Tovino Thomas, Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker will not hit the screens on May 12th as expected by the audience. The director Basil Joseph said that they will not be able to release the film on May 12th due to unavailability of good theaters, both in quality and quantity, especially screens with Dolby Atmos; a major chunk of which are still showing the epic film Baahubali 2.
He added that the makers of Godha have no complaints as it is very understandable that a film like Bahubali, should get the reach it deserves. Godha's release has been postponed to May 19th for a wider release in more than 100 screens in Kerala.
Godha is a film based on wrestling and is similar and different at the same time from Dangal and Sultan, the biggest Bollywood money spinners last year. The Hindi films were based on freestyle wrestling sport while Godha is based on Gatta Gusthi, the native form of wrestling and veteran wrestler TJ George has trained the actors in this style for the film.
Incidentally Baahubali 2 is the film that broke the Box Office records set by Dangal. It has now unintentionally become the cause for postponing the release of a film from the same genre.
It is also to be noted that, Samuthirakani's Thondan that also stars Vikranth was supposed to release on May 5th but has been postponed to get a wider reach from the audiences.
