Lakshmipriya Chandramouli talks about her film Kalam

We have seen Lakshmipriya Chandramouli in films like Sutta Kadhai, Kallappadam and Maya to name some. She will now be seen in this week’s release Kalam where she plays an important role.

Your role?
I play a central character in the film. As regards the script, every character in this film is directly or indirectly affected by the other characters. It is a very tightly knit film. My role is one of the important ones in the film. These days, it is very difficult to get such solid role and I am quite excited about it.

Shooting experience
It is a fairly young team with me, Amzad, Pooja, Sreeni and Kani. We made good friends, learnt a lot from each other and also had fun. Since it is a horror based film, we had to do a lot of night shoot. Most of the shoot happened in a house in Chetpet which was a character by itself. When I saw the house for the first time, I could not believe that in Chennai, there is a house like that in a  central area. It is a beautiful, old and eerie house in terms of its construction, stairs and rooms. If you don’t have lights at night, it is pitch dark there and you can’t see anything. All of us had to make sure we were never alone in that house.

What is different about Kalam?
If I have to say one thing about Kalam, I can say it is very logical and sensible. It is a little difficult for people to relate to a horror film as it is not easy to believe such things could have happened in normal life. Despite that, if horror films become hits, it is because of the fact that it is something beyond our imagination. But this is one horror film, which people will be able to relate to. In the end, it will be completely understandable. Every knot in the story has been untied really well.

Director
Director Robert is a soft spoken man who seldom gets angry. The team really made sure that all of us are kept comfortable. In case we were having long night shoots, they will prepare us well enough.

Other projects
I have two more projects in Tamil, one is called Ticket, Raghav’s film. There are also two other untitled films where my portions are complete. Apart from these, I have done a Tamil feature film, an art film meant for festival circuits, called Revelation directed by Vijay Jayapaul. That film will start its round in the festival circuit soon. I am in talks with two more projects that might start in June, one in Tamil and the other in Malayalam.

Wish you the best Lakshmipriya!
