Kutti Revathy wears many hats as a lyricist, poet, activist and a doctor. She came to be known to the film going audiences with her contribution in the Bharath Bala directorial Maryan in which she had penned the songs Nenjae Ezhu and Engae Pona Rasa and was also a part of script development.
Now she will be directing a film that would have Samuthirakani in the lead. Certain sections of the media had reported that Nandita Das is doing this film. We contacted Kutti Revathy to throw light on this subject and this is what she had to say.
How did you decide to take up direction?
I am helping out a few directors who are in the forefront with their script work. They are in production stage and therefore, I am familiar with this field.
What will be the story of your debut directorial flick?
The story of this film is written by Damayanthi. When she told me the story, I really liked it and we both sat and completed the script work. The subject deals with caste and women in family domains, a topic which is of major interest to me. We cannot completely slot this subject as women-centric. It is a family subject and is about how caste affects women.
Samuthirakani
After Damayanthi and I finished the script, we met Kani sir. He listened and immediately agreed to be on board. We were keen that he only has to do this role and he gave his consent after hearing the script. He plays the lead and his role is a very challenging one.
Nandita Das
We are also looking at talented women artists all over India who could perform as strong as Kani sir. We were in talks with Nandita Das but nothing is finalized as of now. She is also busy with her film Manto.
Cast and crew
I am in talks with many artists and when we confirm the details, I will announce.
