Roobai directed by Anbazhagan and produced by Prabhu Solomon is the second film for Kayal Chandran where he is paired with Anandhi again. Chandran talks about the film and his role:
Role
I am doing a lorry driver’s character in Roobai. I am coming from Theni to Chennai for an assignment and since I didn’t want to go back empty, I get into a job. Due to unforeseen situations, I get entangled with baddie Harish Uthaman.
Anandhi and other cast members
Anandhi plays my love interest and Chinni Jayanth her dad who is a roadside fast-food vendor. My character is calm and composed, but due to a small wish of my friend, Anandhi and Chinni Jayanth, I am forced to do something and what happens after this is the story about. It is a story that happens in four days.
Music
Imman has composed music. Four tracks are there and like soi soi in Kumki, we have a song in Roobai too which will attract the kids. Shreya Ghosal has sung a melody.
Challenging?
It was not a challenging role per se, but I had a different scope of working. I had to play a lorry driver and even in my wildest dream I have never worn a lungi. This is the first time I was wearing. The challenge was to tie the lungi properly. One day, when they called me for the shot, I was walking and texting my fiancee Anjana then and the lungi fell off. Thank heavens, there was shorts inside and I escaped.
Release
We are planning for a release either on 18th or 25th of November.
Upcoming films
PVP’s Grahanam is ready. It is an experimental film that runs for 1.5 hours. It is about what happens in two hours between six characters. My role will have gray shades.
I also have Thittam Poattu Thirudara Kootam. We have wrapped the film and the CG work is going on now. We are planning to release after Pongal 2017.
All the best Chandran!
