The Sarkar story theft controversy is a hot topic right now. The hearing has taken place in the court and the verdict is expected to be out soon. A writer named Varun Rajendran had written a story named Sengol and registered it with the Writers Association in 2007.
When the teaser of Sarkar released, he claimed that the story of Sarkar is similiar to his, and filed a complaint at the association. While this has been a point of debate, director Karu Palaniappan was asked his views on this case, at the audio launch of Rajavukku Raja, he said:
"A girl was killed because she didn't accept to sleep with someone. That is the issue we've to be talking about. Here the privileged have the voice, but the oppressed does not.
Today, a news channel called me up to talk about the Sarkar Story theft, for which I said let's first discuss Rajalakshmi, and then come to this. The story theft is something to be talked about, but there are others for that.
Every day, an oppressed woman is being harassed. But, we've turned a blind eye towards it. Let's talk about it in the open. "
