Director Manikandan’s Kaaka Muttai will be a treasured film in the archives of Tamil Cinema. To take this forward to another grand city like Mumbai, director Samit Kakkad helms the Marathi remake of this entertainer and has titled as “Half Ticket”. Video Palace funds this official remake.
Talking to Behindwoods about this project, Samit expelled immense amount of admiration to the original version’s content and intent.
“I have made quite a few changes to the story to suit the new background city, Mumbai, but the soul of the film will be retained. We have bagged the rights of the music album too, as the real essence of Kaaka Muttai came out well with GV Prakash’s work. Half Ticket will use all the tunes as it is with fresh Marathi lyrics.
My producer loved the film too, and was very keen in bringing this here. We are very specific that none of our cast will be revealed for now, especially the boy's face.
The best part of Mumbai is that the rich and the poor are neighbours and 70% of the population belongs to the slums. We have shot only in real locations, no film sets were erected. The location itself is a character in the film. We are currently in the post-production stage and we look at July 15th as the date for the theatrical release.”
We wish this team all success with this journey!
