John Vijay was seen in Kabali as a trustworthy lieutenant of Superstar Rajinikanth. He is a multifaceted personality having directed 70 odd ads, worked with big stars, bagged a gold medal in body language and many other credits to his repertoire. We chat with the talented artist.
After Kabali
Immediately after Kabali, when I was shooting for a film, someone asked me how I am working in a small budget film. I told them that everything is cinema. For me, all the films are Kabali only. Right from my childhood, I give in 200% to the work that has been assigned to me and I will continue to do so in future too.
How do you choose your films?
I don’t ask for the story. I ask for my character and believe that when a director has faith in me and approaches me I will respect his call. At the end of the day, we all work for audience’s support.
I would like to entertain my audience and keep trying out different things. I rely on my director’s vision, which helps in bringing variations in characters. I don’t claim myself to be a method actor.
Films ready for release and roles in them
Veera Sivaji- It will be a new makeover for me in this film. I will be sporting a stylized don kind of look speaking English.
Kadalai- It will be a Diwali release. My character is someone who returns home after studying abroad. Since it is a village based film, I will not much mouth English words there. It is a comedy flick with a good message about farming.
Ulkuthu- My role again will be different. You will sympathize with my character. It is a small role but will fetch me a good name.
Shankara- Telugu remake of Mounaguru which will be a Diwali release.
I also have Asurakulam, Pattinapaakkam and other films which would soon be released.
Upcoming projects
I am doing a Malayalam film with director Amal Neerad featuring Dulquer Salmaan. I will be going to the USA for the shooting. I have also begun a film titled 88 with Vidharth as the lead directed by a newcomer.
We wish you the best John Vijay!
