Director Shankar is directing Indian 2 which stars Kamal Haasan, Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Siddharth and others in the lead roles. Filming of Indian 2 had started in 2019 and the film was shot at EVP Film City. In February last year, a crane collapsed at the shooting site and three people were killed as a result. Following this, filming was suspended. Lockdown was then declared due to the coronavirus epidemic and the shooting got stalled further.
Though some relaxation was announced, Indian 2 shooting was not started. While this was going on, director Shankar announced two new films – one with Ram Charan and another with Ranveer Singh.
Protesting against this, Lyca Productions, the producer of Indian 2, filed a case in the Madras High Court, seeking a ban on director Shankar from directing other films without completing theirs first. In its petition, Lyca had stated that only 80 per cent of the work, costing a lot, had been completed. But the High Court, which heard the case, refused to grant an interim injunction to director Shankar.
Lyca appealed to the Madras High Court against this. Shankar’s counsel said that the director would complete the film by October. Following this, the judges said that the Indian 2 issue could not be resolved by court intervention. Lyca and Shankar were asked to meet and advised to find a solution to the problem.
The senior lawyer, who was then appearing on behalf of the director, held talks with Shankar and the production company last Saturday. During the two-and-a-half-hour talks, Shankar's side said that the film would be completed between June and October. However, it was not accepted by the production company. He said negotiations had failed as the production company insisted that the film be finished in June.
Following this, the judges adjourned the case to June. Shankar had also said that the scenes starring actor Vivekh have to be reshot.
