The Madras High Court has ruled that internet websites and platforms are banned from releasing/publishing Mersal. About 2650 websites are to be blocked by order to 37 internet service providers, as per the judgment of the High Court today.
With the ongoing ticket pricing playing an influential role in the people's minds about whether a visit to the theatre is actually worth it, pirate websites like TamilRockers are becoming plan B to even ardent film buffs. But this is not the right direction for the movie industry and cinema in general.
This ban is a welcome relief. Whether it will have an actual effect to curb piracy is something we should all think about.
According to the latest press reports, admin of popular pirated movie website, Tamilrockers has allegedly been arrested by Tamil Nadu Police Department. Apparently, he has been kept captive at D-1 Police Station, Triplicane in Chennai.
The person who been arrested is named Gauri Shankar. A formal press meet regarding this will be held soon, and we will be able to disclose more details as we get. This sure looks like a major breakthrough in the process of curbing piracy.
