The Hathras rape case in which a 19-year-old woman was gang-raped by four upper caste men in Uttar Pradesh and died of injuries thereof, has angered the nation. Celebrities are spearheading a call for change.
Actress Madhoo put up a video in which she said, "When a rape happens, we can't just justify it. Can we say it is happening for a better tomorrow? Nirbhaya happened in 2012. It hasn't stopped after that. Men are doing this to women and we are of the same species. They say it is a problem of the mind. When an alcoholic goes for rehab, he says he is an alcoholic and then the treament begins. Can someone say they are a rapist, they are having urges and lock me up. Can we sidestep them being caught and hang them in the middle of the road and showcase it on TV channels?"
Not just Madhoo, various celebrities are angry at the increasing violence against women and children.

I cannot believe the discourse on Twitter / Social media is “WHY ARE YOU TARGETING UP???!” When it should be why is it even a competion on which State in India has more rapes rather than WHY hasnt VaW come down?!https://t.co/tATImB35oO pic.twitter.com/xE11eCPd4E
