Gautham Menon has given many memorable films in his career and ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ is one such film which is fresh in the fans’ mind. Suriya played a tough cop and his performance set a benchmark for all actors who played cops in movies that were released thereafter.
17 years ago, on the same day (August 1), the movie released and received an amazing response from the critics and audience. In an exclusive interview with Behindwoods, GVM opened up about the movie and the experience he had while filming it. He also spoke about the recent controversial topic of glorifying cops in movies.
Speaking about ‘Kaakha Kaakha’, GVM said “It was an amazing experience. The Suriya-Jyothika chemistry on screen worked really well. Harris Jayaraj, Anthony and everyone else associated with the film were at their best. That’s what resulted in the magic that happened on screen.”
Talking about the police flavour in most of his movies, GVM said “I was always fascinated by cops and the armed forces, right from a young age. I actually wanted to get into the army when I was 16. Later, when I wanted to get into the film industry, that is when the police flavour in my scripts stuck with me and I’m glad it worked out well. There will be more of these in my future films too.”
Talking about the sensitive issue of glorifying cops in movies leading to actual police brutality, GVM said “Well, we don’t show anything that is unreal in movies; atleast with respect to my films, I don't. The romance, action and everything I show in my films is actually based on reality and drawn from life. Also, in my movies, whatever I glorify is about the police handling a negative incident or a thing. Other than that, there's not anything more.” GVM also gave a few real life examples of a few police officers.
GVM also spoke about the making of the songs in ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and the story behind it. Check out the full interview here:
