NOTED FILMMAKER SLAPPED WITH 5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

Filmmaker Aabavanan who made films like Oomai Vizhigal, Sendhura Poovae and Uzhavan Magan to name a few has been sentenced by a CBI court in Chennai for defrauding Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs 2.34 crore. He was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and also a fine of Rs 2.40 crore.

In 1999, Punjab National Bank had filed a case against Aabavanan and the manager and assistant manager of a branch in Chennai of misappropriation of cheque collection. The case was going on for the past many years and finally the CBI Special Court has given the verdict that all three were guilty.
