DIRECTOR OPENS UP ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL WEDDING SCENE IN ETHIRNEECHAL - EXCLUSIVE!

One of the scenes featured in the series was said to have caused a great deal of controversy amongst fans. Behindwoods got in touch with Thiruselvam, the director of the serial, about the true background of the scene and how it was misunderstood by a few.

In this serial, Marimuthu, a leading actor who has acted in many films, is playing a pivotal role. Kanika, a popular actress who has acted in films including Ajith's Varalaru, is also playing the lead role.

Dance with the Bride

One scene in the serial features scenes from a wedding. Going by the current trend, bridesmaids can be seen dancing to a tune as they bring on the bride along with them to the stage. Marimuthu gets angry when he sees this system.

Marimuthu scolded the bride and the bridesmaids for bringing in this system which according to him is not traditional, he also rebuked the wedding photographers as they regularly ask the newly-wedded couple to tie the knot again just for the sake of camera. 

Controversial scene

Thus Marimuthu's take about the current trends in marriages and the wedding photographer caused controversy. Meanwhile, Thiruselvam, the director, has given an explanation about this scene in his serial in an exclusive interview to 'Behindwoods'.

Misunderstood by those who do not watch the regula

He said, "That idea is not the plot of the serial. Speaking of someone in a negative way is the way a villain speaks in the serials. The character is structured to criticize things about the youth of this period. That's how we've been portraying that character for the last about 20 episodes. The plot revolves around the character's reactionary nature."

Progressive is the core of Ethirneechal

Many praised the same scene. But, I did not create that scene for appreciations or criticisms. It's a scene created for the story. But, it was misunderstood. The story is about getting rid of the old-school habits and progressing with progressive thinking.

Understood

My characters will reflect as much progressive thinking as possible in many of my previous serials, including Kolangal, and in the Vallamai Tharaayo web series directed by Chidambaram Manivannan. But it is the people who do not watch the series in its entirety or on a regular basis who misunderstand this scene and thus speak. These scenes in particular are spreading on the internet. They are just talking about this. I explained when many people called and asked, as well as explained to some organizations, they understood.
