At a recent event, actress Jyothika stressed on the importance of maintaining schools and colleges on par with temples and (other) religious places. The statement created a lot of debate amongst social media circles.
As a reply to the criticism, Era. Saravanan, director of Kathukutty and Jyothika's upcoming film wrote a long post in which the director recalled the actress' experience of visiting a hospital in Thanjavur during the shoot of the film, which was cited as an example in her aforementioned speech.
Saravanan, who insisted that the project must be shot on live locations, went to Thanjavur's Raja Mirasudhar Government Hospital along with his team for a shoot. During that period, Saravanan recalled how Jyothika was shocked by the hospital's deplorable conditions.
"The sight of a mother struggling at a cramped space with her newborn destroyed her. The hospital, which lacked even basic necessities, was situated opposite to the Brihadeeswara Temple. It was shocking and painful."
Saravanan also said that their whole crew knows how much Jyothika adored and respected the temple, noting that she brought the temple's memorabilia as a gift to her children.
