SAITHAN OPENING REPORT AMIDST NADA AND DEMONETISATION

We know that the recent demonetisation issue has affected the theatre occupancy and the box office collections of films that have released over the past few weeks. To add to this, there is now a new threat in Tamil Nadu, the NADA cyclone.

Vijay Antony’s Saithan released today and Maveeran Kittu is expected to release tomorrow. Some towns in the state that had heavy rains from the morning have had a dip in the occupancy whereas some other places like Theni remain unaffected due to a no rain scenario.

Saithan is getting a positive response from those who have watched the first few shows and its opening seems to be good.

To find out about the rain’s effect on Saithan and other films in Chennai, we spoke to Vettri Cinemas (Chrompet) proprietor Rakesh who says, “If the content of the film is extraordinary, the film will do well anyways. However, the effect of demonetisation still exists and cannot be solved in a week or two. It will take at least 5 months for the problem to get resolved and things to get back to normal. The rains may not pose a big threat. Even with the showers, the college goers and youngsters will flock to the theatres. It is only the kids and the family audiences whose capacity might drop a little”.

Let us hope that these threats get resolved in quick time and Saithan and the upcoming films do well at the box office.
