Renowned editor Kola Bhaskar makes his production debut with Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam directed by Gitanjali Selvaraghavan. This flick has Selvaraghavan’s story with Kola Balakrishnan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Parvathy Nair in the leads.
Kola Bhaskar in an exclusive chat with behindwoods, shares his thoughts on the film:
What made you choose this story for your maiden production venture?
I did not choose. It was Selva sir who selected this story and gave to me. He clarified my doubts whenever they arose. He gave ideas and honed the script to perfection. Without his guidance, this project would not have gone further. I sought for a story, suiting the trend and he gave me this. We have been discussing this script for quite a while. I liked this genre and that’s how I proceeded with bankrolling this project.
How has the film come up?
As a technician, I am highly satisfied. There is no other word to explain how I feel. One thing I can proudly say is we have never compromised anywhere. The reason behind that is of course Selvaraghavan who was very keen that we should not find a middle ground for anything. This film is made purely out of hard work and we have all given our 100%. It will not be nice if I speak about my film in superlatives. The audience would give their opinion.
Would you produce more films in future?
I don’t decide these things. If it had to happen, it will automatically happen. I am not like people who take up many projects and work on it. I won’t produce films with a singular objective of making money. If something comes my way which I feel will turn out better, I will definitely take it up.
As a father, how do you see your son’s performance in the film?
I can’t much say as I am weak on that. An artist is a set property of a director. Everybody is a set property while working under Selva sir. He guided my son in every aspect. I did not expect him to perform this well. The full credit goes to Selvaraghavan and Gitanjali Selvaraghavan.
