Roshomon: The first song in the world of Rudra segment of Dulquer’s Solo, Roshomon, is a super fast paced number sung by Ashwin Gopakumar, Arun Kamath and Niranj. It has a very peppy tune with simple lyrics. There is a good use of trumpets, sitars and guitars. The song seems to follow a Russian, Jazz Ballet pattern which is foot tapping and would perfectly serve an energetic dance based number. It also has a narrative portion that is commendable. The latter half has a change of tempo, where the hamper pulls us out and pushes us back into the fast pace of the song.
Sajan More Ghar Aaye: The carnatic based Sajan More Ghar Aaye, is a beautiful blend of carnatic and contemporary music. It has a Hindustani ghazal touch as well. It is a very complex song which has the use of electronic beats and synth as well. But the stand out in the song is the carnatic chants which are a feast for those who like well knitted complicated numbers. Superior use of violin and Mridhangam in the latter half, deep female vocals with a tinge of mischief make this an enjoyable experience for offbeat music lovers.
Sita Kalyanam (Composed by Sooraj S Kurup): A very unique attempt that serves as slow poison to the listener. A melancholy situation seems to be on the cards. The song sung by Renuka Arun and Sooraj S Kurup seems to be about a loss and the pain attached to it. The start is western with a melodious voice taking over the English lyrics and it quickly shifts to the Tamil verses “Sita Kalyana, Vaibhogamae”. A very haunting number from Sooraj for this segment of Solo. Sita Kalyanam is an Indian filter coffee fit right into an international cup seasoned by a strong piano portion and amazing use of chords.
