'Draupathi' released on February 28, Friday and the film has been receiving a good flow of audience to the theatres. Featuring Richard Rishi, Karunas and Sheela in pivotal roles, the movie was helmed by Mohan G.
The film attracted controversies after the release of its trailer. Deemed to be casteist by a few, some audience seems to disagree with it. Director Mohan G had an interaction with Behindwoods where he shared about his film and the claimed 'hidden' meanings in it.
Explaining about the censored contents, Mohan said that the word 'Annen' was censored throughout the film, as it was related to a certain person by the people on social media. The image of a person held by the character Draupathi was blurred in the film, and Mohan G explained that the image was of a freedom fighter based in Salem. "After Bharathiyar's death, he opposed British with his poems and his press 'Veera Bharathi'.
Mohan said that the censor blurred the image because he belonged to his community and he has also written a lot about the community. "The censor did not want to identify the characters with any caste" he added. Check out the full interview video to watch the heated argument between anchor Avudaiappan and Mohan G.
