''I WILL CALL THIS A REBIRTH OR REINCARNATION''

Kalyana Samayal Saadham (KSS) directed by RS Prasanna had earned a good response from audience and critics alike for handling an important, sensitive issue in an enjoyable but in the right manner. The film now goes to Bollywood under the production of director Anand L Rai titled as Shubh Mangal Saavdhan which is all set to release on 25th August 2017, on Vinayaka Chathurthi day. We catch up with Prasanna.

Thank you behindwoods!
Firstly, I would like to thank behindwoods for the wonderful appreciation of the film through the review and I always will cherish it.

How did it all begin?
The genesis of the Hindi project was very organic, just like KSS. It has been a blessing for me. When we were making KSS, we knew we were making a niche/A Centre kind of a film. We had discussions then about it going to Hindi as that would fetch the film a global audience. Thanks to heroine Lekha Washington's pestering, we had organized a special screening of KSS in Mumbai. We had invited guests like Anand L Rai, Vishal Bharadwaj and many others and all of them unanimously liked the film. It was a huge moment for me and the team. After the screening, Anand came to me, hugged and said, “What are you doing tomorrow? Come and meet me in my office”. From there to now, cut to three years, he has announced my film now.

In the interim

Anand Rai was doing Tanu Weds Manu- part 2 then and said he would take up KSS after he is done with Tanu. I was also busy with an English film on Chinmayananda and told him I will start on Hindi KSS after this.

Anand L Rai
Anand is someone who gets involved from the heart. He is such a warm person and a great filmmaker. True to his word, even before he completed Tanu, he formalized everything with me. We took a year to find the right milieu and here we are.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (SMS)
I will not call this a remake, but a rebirth or a reincarnation. To say in a cinematic parlance, it will be like twin brothers who get separated; one grows up in the north and the other in the south; years later they meet. When you watch the film, you will find it is like an identical twin, but yet it will have its own personality, its own journey and you will say these are twins. It has a soul connect with KSS but it would be a brother or a sister of KSS, born and raised in the north. It will have the energy and the rhythm of the north, but the same sweetness, same romance, same comedy, same feel-good of the south too.

Stand up for love
I am eager to take this subject to a wider audience because of the message which Anand Rai rightly tweeted- stand up for love. This is more relevant. I can sense a lot of cynicism in love these days. The emotion is being complicated a lot with terms like love, hook up, live-in, girl friend, friends with benefits and what not. Through SMS, you will go back to simple, innocent love which will strike a chord.
