H.Raja, National Secretary of the BJP had earlier expressed his views against the GST related dialogues in 'Mersal'. Its a known fact that his opinions turned out to be a good promotion for the film. Recalling the incident, actor Udhayanidhi Stalin in a promotional interview reportedly remarked in a lighter vein that his 'Ippadai Vellum' team has plans to have some controversy dialogues and market their film using the BJP leaders.

H Raja condemned it through his tweet, "ஒன்னும் ப்ரயோஜனம் இல்லை. நாங்க உதவினாலும் படம் ஓடாதாம்." (Translated Version - No use. Even if we help the movie wouldn't run).
