Maari, starring Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal was an action entertainer directed by Balaji Mohan, which released in 2015 and enjoyed immense success. Recently, the director made an official announcement regarding the sequel for the film, subsequent to which he released the cast and crew list of the movie.

Titled Maari 2, the sequel film had a pooja ceremony conducted on December 14, which was attended by Dhanush, Robo Shankar and others. At 12 AM this morning, January 1, the title logo of the movie was released.
