Karnan starring Dhanush in the lead and directed by Mari Selvraj is running successfully in a theatre near you. Actress Lakshmi Priya plays a pivotal role in the film. Behindwoods caught up with the effervescent actress to know what happened behind the scenes. Excerpts.
Talking about how people had reacted to the film, she said, “It has been overwhelming. First time, I am seeing a film along with an audience. I was nervous. Later, I became happy and emotional.”
On coming in touch with Mari, she said, “He called me and introduced himself as Parireyum Perumal director. I got excited and told him how much I had loved the film. He said that he has a role for me and that he’d let me know. A lot of people approach you but it doesn’t carry forward. Though I was excited, I had to control my expectation. Thankfully, he called me.”
She further added, “On the sets, he would never compliment anyone’s acting. I used to go up to him and ask, ‘How was my performance?’ to which, he would say, ‘You are a theatre artist, why are you even asking? Let the audience decide.’
On her scenes with Dhanush, especially the ‘Sappadu’ one, she said, “The scenes in the film have to be real. Dhanush used to tell me to do whatever was required for the scene. In fact, he used to even say, you could have gone all the way. He didn’t want me to hold myself back.” She adds that she gets goosebumps seeing Dhanush perform.
