The Kerala State Government has ordered the Film Exhibition Federation of their state to install the system of E-Ticketing in cinema theatres by 1st of July 2016. Dhananjayan, a known film producer who is also a keen observer of film trade tweeted wishing this was implemented in our state of Tamil Nadu too.
Behindwoods spoke to Dhananjayan to further understand the benefits of this E-Ticket approach.
“There are totally two advantages if the total ticketing system gets converted to E-Ticketing.
1.Theatres tend to falsely project a low occupancy rate to avoid paying taxes for films that are released without tax exemption. This is possible only because of the existence of a manual ticket issuing method that still prevails in single theatres in our state. By implementing this E-Ticket method, the government will be able to levy the tax properly.
2.Unlike Hollywood films, few big star films here tend to project blown out of proportion numbers with respect to box-office as there is no systematic recording of data. This can be avoided if everything is computerized. Transparency in this case will even help a filmmaker attain a precise picture about the output of his film and he can subsequently learn from his mistakes. “
Will our Government also take necessary steps in this regard? For that, we need to wait for the new government to be set-up.
