Actor Karunakaran has acted in several movies as a comedian and a character artist. His latest release was Podhu Nalan Karudhi which hit screens on February 7. On February 9, the director Zion and co-producer Vijayanand of the movie lodged a police complaint at the Commissioner’s office against actor Karunakaran for sending death threats to them.
Actor Karunakaran has given a press release with respect to this complaint. He states,”The complaints lodged by director Zion and co-producer Vijayanand are not true. The team informed to me on February 1, friday at around 9 PM that the audio launch is planned on February 4. Since I had prior unavoidable commitments on the same day, I explained it to them and left for my work. I came back to India after my shoot only on February 8. They are now blaming me for not being present at the audio launch. When they lodged a complaint against me on February 9, they also mentioned that they got threatening calls from exorbitant interest loan providers supporting me, and warning them about belittling me, on the 27th of November 2018, when they were on the way to their office from ‘Celebrity Show’. That was the same day the movie teaser was released.”
He has then added,”I only have following things to say regarding this issue. I don’t have any contacts with such financiers and so their complaints are not true. My father had worked in Central Government’s most important department and won an award. This is not the way I was raised. Every actor only wants their films to run successfully. I have risked my life and acted in several scenes in this film. It is hence baseless to tell that I am linked to illegal money lenders."
“I have helped farmers who were suffering from too many loans, helped people who were affected by floods and storms. It is depressing to accuse me of this. I have social responsibility too. I don’t have to get into violence to run my life. I gained spotlight through short films, why will I not support debut directors?! I wish the Podhu Nalan Karudhi team a good success.”, he had said.
