Bigil, Vijay's upcoming movie directed by Atlee, in which he is acting along with Nayanthara, Vivek, Yogi Babu, Daniel Balaji, Kathir, etc., is now currently holding its audio launch event at Chennai. Here is what director Atlee had to say.
Atlee started his speech by talking about what he considered his lucky charm. He said that he thought a certain grey shirt was his lucky charm and hence he wore the same to his films until Mersal, and by the time he went to narrate the story of Mersal to Vijay, he outgrew the shirt. But Mersal made its mark too, and Atlee mentioned that it was then he understood that the movie clicked not because of his shirt, but because of Vijay Anna, according to his own words.
Bigil materialized only because of Vijay Anna, Atlee mentions. He said when he narrated his idea about Bigil to Vijay, the actor agreed to work in the project and sent Atlee to AGS Cinemas, who had already asked him for a collaboration after watching Mersal. He also mentioned that Archana Kalpathi was like a sister to him, and he jokingly said that they used to fight a lot, but whatever happened, Kalpathi sir always used to support Atlee over his own daughter.
Everyone has a favorite hero, and Vijay anna is mine, Atlee fondly mentioned. Atlee mentioned that he needed to thank 104 people in his speech. When asked if Bigil is a sports movie or commercial movie, Atlee answered with another question stating if Ghilli was a sports movie or a commercial one.
Atlee said all his films have a women-centric theme and he said that the reason for this is that there is no life without women. Theri is based on Nirbhaya, Mersal on his own life experiences, and Bigil is based on local state Football match. He strongly condemned those who force violence on women and mentioned that Bigil will be his best film till date and Singapenney song became a hit for a reason.
Atlee said that they went to Goa to research for Bigil and TN Manipur match was going on, and not even 5 people were there to cheer for them. The writers had told him that there was no pull for this game, but Atlee insisted that they need to do based on this game itself. About AR Rahman, Atlee mentioned that he is indeed a God.
On a fun note about his color, Atlee mentioned that just knowing languages is not the measure of one's knowledge, and similarly color does not determine the character of a person. He also mentioned that Black is beautiful. On the topic of haters, Atlee mentioned that haters are actually people who love your work more, and are more helpful. If fans speak about you one time, haters speak ten times, and all press is good press he implied. Get the gist of his speech in the video!
