On Madrasapattinam's 10th anniversary, we spoke to director Vijay on the Arya-Amy Jackson feature. "It was only while we were shooting the climax, Arya told me this particular scene is good and asked what are the following scenes after this? I told Arya, just two more scenes, explained it again and we are done with the film. He exclaimed to me saying, 'Wow, the film looks really cool'. I was pulling his leg asking if he was acting without knowing the story," the director begins his nostalgic trip.
About the romance portions in Madrasapattinam, he says the inspiration was K Balachander's Ek Thuja Ke Liye considering the communication barrier can be removed.
He also spoke highly about GV Prakash's music for Madrasapattinam and said he is a mix of Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman, an equal mix of soulfulness and modern elements.
