Mersal is undoubtedly one of Vijay's biggest ever hits to date. Thalapathy's screen presence, some splendid camera work and viral hit songs from AR Rahman helped Mersal achieve the blockbuster tag. The Diwali release window was one external factor that aided the film's prospect.
Ahead of the release, there were a lot of issues that Mersal team had to go through including few problems with the censor board. Now AR Rahman reveals that Prasoon Joshi, the Chief of CBFC was one of the main reasons, Mersal had a smooth release for Diwali.
AR Rahman shared this information through an Instagram video with Prasoon, "Mersal film released as per plan because of this man, Prasoon Joshi. Without his help, we wouldn't have released the movie. So thank you Prasoon for that."

Since 1992, AR Rahman has garnered countless fans for himself. Over the years, with his music, he has captivated people all over the world. We all would be big fans of the maestro's compositions! But have we ever wondered, which actor's fan would he probably be? Here is an answer!
In a recent interview with a North Indian media channel, AR Rahman was asked if he is a Rajinikanth or a Kamal Haasan fan. He had a satisfying answer to it. Here is what he had to say!
"I am a Rajini fan, but I love Kamal! All these people have enriched our lives. MGR, Sivaji, Rajini, and Kamal. Every generation has its own. Now, It is Ajith and Vijay. Strangely, I watched Billa in Tanjavur around 1983-84. It was a strange memory I have of going to a small town to watch the movie. Of course, I have done music for Muthu, Padayappa, Sivaji and all. There is also the art of taking energy from spirituality and reflecting it in your art; I think he does that beautifully. He has been an inspiration to me!"
