Director Saran, who has worked with actor Ajith in films like Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam, Attagasam and Asal, is gearing up for the release of his next film Aayirathil Iruvar starring Vinay and all set to hit screens tomorrow (September 22nd, 2017). In an exclusive interview with Behindwoods, Saran shares his views on why his Asal with Ajith did not perform well:
“My previous collaborations with Ajith sir before Asal were very different. Also, Ajith sir is known to be a mass hero but suddenly he asked me if we could try a different pattern without the mass punch dialogues. In fact, he wanted me to do a subtle character with minimal to no dialogues and a stylish film for him.
Hence we got to do a script like Asal. What audiences expected of the two of us collaborating was totally different from what came out as the film. This expectation we could not cater to because we tried something totally different with Ajith sir. This is why I feel the movie did not perform well and become a hit!”
