The audio launch of director Atlee's forthcoming sports film, Bigil, ended with a speech from actor Vijay. The speech was received amongst the audiences for its witty remarks and the warmth exuded by the actor, whilst raising important questions about current issues, particularly the demise of Subashri, which was caused by the fall of a political hoarding.
As a response to the speech, D. Jayakumar,Minister for Fisheries and Personnel and Administrative Reform in the Tamil Nadu government, said that actors are attacking the state government for the sole purpose of increasing the viability of their films. In a recent press meet, the politician said "For the sake of a film's return of investment and commercial success, (the actors) are attacking the government.
Any actor can start a political party, be it Vijay, Goundamani, Senthil or Vivekh. But, as soon as they star in films as heroes, we don't know what gets into their head and they start talking about issues at will. Firstly, they talk about the government."
Bigil stars Vijay and Nayanthara in the lead roles while Yogi Babu, Anandraj, Indhuja, Vivekh, Manobala, Jackie Shroff, Kathir and others play crucial supporting roles. The film features soundtrack composed by AR Rahman and produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram under the banner AGS Entertainment.
