Following the controversy surrounding the words of lyricist Vairamuthu during a speech wherein he spoke about Aandal's lineage, industry stalwarts for whom it did not bode well have voiced out in public, expressing their opinions.
Actor Vivekh posted on his Twitter: "தமிழுக்கும் இலக்கியத்துக்கும் திரைப் பாடலுக்கும் பெரும் பங்களிப்பு செய்தவர் கவிப்பேரரசு. It pains to see the phase he undergoes.His explanation may kindly b received.
Roughly translated, the actor has stated that it pains him to see someone as accomplished in Tamil literature and lyrics as Vairamuthu undergo this scenario, and that Aandal is a poet respected greatly by a religion, which should be respected by all. He also says that a random foreigner's article is irrelevant, and that it is only proper that the great lyricist apologize and be forgiven.
Veteran lyricist Vairamuthu has landed in huge controversy after his speech citing a study by an American scholar which referred to Aandal as a Devadasi.
According to reports, more than 200 people in Srivilliputhur, Virudhunagar district, protested against Vairamuthu by burning his effigy in front of the Aandal Temple located there. The protesters, led by Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy, sought the lyricist to come to the temple and publicly apologize. A complaint has also been made to the police against him.
