Kailasam Balachander was a veteran Indian filmmaker and playwright who worked mainly in the Tamil film industry. Balachander's films are well known for projecting strong confident female characters. He is known as 'Iyakkunar Sigaram'. He started his film career in 1964 as a screenwriter and graduated to a director with Neerkumizhi (1965).
Yesterday, the 23rd of December marked the 5th anniversary of the legendary director's demise and an event was conducted in honor of the same. A "K Balachander Fans Association" was inaugrated yesterday, and many dignataries - Mr. Sivakumar, Kala Master, Ramesh Aravind, Nassar attended the function amongst others.
Popular Actor Sivakumar enumerated what made K Balachander such a legendary director. He mentioned that Nagesh, Kamal Haasan and Rajini were three of the most important people in K Balachander's life. He explained how close Nagesh was with the director, and also how he had praised Rajinikanth that he will become one of the most sought after stars in the industry.
Explaining on the famous discovery of Rajini's style, Sivakumar mentions that the Superstar was actually reluctant to show off his different ways of smoking styles for Balachander. But then, after a lot of deliberation, the actor displayed about 10-12 varieties of the same in his style and this was included in the 'Moondru Mudichu' film throughout!
