WHO IS THE BOX OFFICE KING NOW? VETERAN OPENS UP

Behindwoods recently had an interaction with popular theatre owner and distributor, Abirami Ramanathan. During the interview, we asked him about Vijay's acting career and more about Sarkar.

How excited are you about Sarkar's box office outcome as an exhibitor?

"I am very excited, that is why I have acquired the Chennai theatrical rights of Sarkar. Previously, I bought Mersal's rights. In fact, I have acquired Chennai city rights for most big films that have released in the recent past. I am definitely very excited because I have invested a lot in it.

How is the pre-release buzz for Sarkar?

"The buzz is so high, heavy pressure for tickets as people are waiting for it so badly. We have 4 screens in our theatre, I am planning to have 20 shows per day for Sarkar."

Can you say the list of successful films that made Vijay who he is now?

"I have screened all Vijay movies right from the start of his career. Can't pinpoint one film exactly, there are several hit films that show his hard work. No matter what role Vijay plays, he lives the character."

Apart from Vijay, what are the other factors that will help people want to watch Sarkar?

"Keerthy Suresh is an extraordinary actress, then you have AR Murugadoss who is an extraordinary director. His films will always carry a suspense element, sentiment, courage, and patriotism. And Vijay will be so natural on screen. There won't be any slag in the movie, the screenplay will be airtight. Even an ardent smoker will be glued to the screen for 3 hours."

Will Vijay call and inquire about the film's performance? Has he done that before?

"Always, both Vijay sir and Rajini sir always call after their film releases and check about the film's box office performance. I am bold enough to say a spade as a spade. So they prefer to check their film's outcome with me."

The best response for a Vijay film at your theatre till date?

"Thuppakki, it had a patriotic theme, had an extraordinary response. Everybody liked it."

Who is the box office KING in your opinion

"This is a very delicate question because box office King does not depend solely on the hero alone. It is a combination of story, direction, songs, heroine and how people like? So there is not like one box office king, every hero has a list of hits as well as flops. The only difference between big heroes and others is that top stars won't have any starting trouble. Friday, Saturday and Sundary, you will have people coming to the theatre but if the film is not good enough, the film will disappear on Monday."
