DIWALI RACE, CONCERN ON THE RAISE!

With Vijay Antony’s  Saithan also looking to book a Diwali slot, we now have 5 releases for the festive day. Kodi, Kashmora, Kathi Sandai and Kadavul Irukkan Kumaru are the other 4 releases in the Diwali race.

In the recent times, we have not seen as much as 5 notable Tamil movies releasing together. Though this could sound exciting for film buffs, the film trade scenario could be alarming considering the shelf life of a movie.

When we spoke to Rakesh Gowtham (Vetri Cinemas), one of the popular exhibitors, about Diwali race and whether films are being given a proper release window of late, he said, "It is surprising to see many film makers preferring to release their films for Diwali despite heavy competition, especially when Diwali falls on a Saturday (29th October). I feel it’s a mistake that a couple of 4 day weekends like Independence Day and Ganesh Chaturthi holidays were not utilized properly.”

We still have 45 days to go for Diwali and things could very well change. Let’s hope our films find a proper release window to unleash their true potential.
