Maestro Ilayaraja’s 1000th film Thara Thappattai is all gunned up to hit the screens on the 14th January with a lot of fervor. The songs in the film are being appreciated by musical connoisseurs all over the world.
One thousand films under his belt, this genius is completely nonchalant of his contributions in making people happy. Creating music is akin to creating life and the experience one is subjected to when listening to music is something that cannot be put in words. It is a feeling and a divine one at that.
Having captivated people across the world with his notes, we just brush through some of his landmark films. One hundredth film of Raaga Devan as he is fondly called as, is Moodu Pani directed by Balu Mahendra which had lilting melodies in the form of En Iniya Pon Nilavae and Paruva Kaalangalin. Aayiram Nilavae Vaa and Udhaya Geetham are his 200th and 300th films while the Mani Ratnam directorial Nayagan and Anjali were his 400th and 500th respectively. Thevar Magan is said to be his 600th film and there is no clarity on which film forms his 700th and 800th. Hey Ram is likely to be his 900th film while Bala’s Thara Thappattai becomes the much coveted Grand for this icon.
In his illustrious career spanning many decades, there are many many extraordinary music compositions and the naming of them would be like a never ending tribute.
All the same, wishing that the Maestro continues to bind the listeners in his magical spell!
