The man who made so many path-breaking films on women empowerment and other issues pertaining to our day to day life. From extremely hard-hitting movies to out and out laugh crackers, there is nothing that this legend hasn’t tried. Yes, we are talking about the late great ‘Iyakkunar Sigaram’ K Balachander. Today, the 9th of July marks his 87th birthday anniversary.
After having established a strong footing in the theater industry, K Balachander ventured into films through Neerkumuzhi in 1965. Post that he has given us many timeless classics like Apoorva Raagangal, Sindhu Bhairavi, Avargal, Thaneer Thaneer, Thillu Mullu, Punnagai Mannan, Server Sundaram, Kalyana Agadhigal and many more films that have stood the test of time.
On the remembrance of his 87th Birthday, a statue would be unveiled today at his Birthplace, Nallinam (Near Thanjavur). Kamal Haasan, Vairamuthu, and Manirathnam are expected to grace the occasion.
