Actor Suriya had taken the Internet by storm over his reaction on the education system. The actor strongly reacted when the demise of 3 NEET aspirants in Tamil Nadu a day before the exam shook the state.
Slamming the courts over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), he had questioned the concept of entrance exam and also claimed that these exams are also taking away students' lives.
But the actor had landed in trouble as Justice SM Subramaniam of the Madras High Court in a statement to the High Court Chief Justice asked to initiate contempt proceedings against the actor as his letter states, “The Statement reveals that the Hon'ble Judges are afraid of their own life and rendering justice through video conferencing. While-so, they have no morale to pass orders directing the students to appear for NEET Exam without fear. The said statement in my considered opinion amounts to contempt of Court as the integrity and devotion of the Hon'ble Judges as well as the Judicial System of our Great Nation are not only undermined but criticised in a bad shape, wherein there is threat for the public confidence on the Judiciary. Thus, the cine actor Mr.Suriya has committed contempt, warranting contempt proceedings to uphold the Majesty of our Indian Judicial System."
Now, in the latest development it has been learnt that 6 former HC judges - K. Chandru, K.N. Basha, T. Sudanthiram, K. Kannan, D.Hariparanthaman and GM Akbar Ali backed Suriya. Writing to Madras HC Chief Justice, they have requested not to initiate action against the actor based on the letter written by Justice SM Subramaniam. They further have appealed to leave the matter as it is as it would otherwise create unnecessary controversies.
