Monday, June 29 saw the grand announcement by Disney+ Hotstar that the streaming platform will be premiering seven major Bollywood films over the next few months - Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Laxmmi Bomb’, Ajay Devgn's ‘Bhuj: The Pride Of India’, ‘Sadak 2’ starring Alia Bhatt, Sushant Singh Rajput's last film ‘Dil Bechara’, ‘The Big Bull’ starring Abhishek Bachchan, Vidyut Jammwal starrer ‘Khuda Haafiz’ and ‘Lootcase’ featuring Kunal Khemu.
Movies these days are preferring not to delay their release further and opt to release directly on OTT. However, this particular move was not well-received by the chains of cinema theatres who have often expressed their disappointment.
Now, exactly a day after the grand announcement, a big development has been announced. According to Taran Adarsh who is one of the most prominent film critics and trade analysts in India, 2 biggies have confirmed not to release on OTT and have planned for theatrical release on festival dates.
Yes, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi which is helmed by Rohit Shetty is planned to hit the theatres on Diwali and Ranveer Singh’s sports-drama ’83, helmed by Kabir Khan will be a Christmas release. Stay tuned!
