Oru Naal Iravil (ONI) is the Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Shutter directed by Editor Anthony. The film is hitting the screens today, the 20th November and is produced by director Vijay. Anumol who was seen earlier in films like Thilagar, Raamar and Kannukullae plays an important role in the film alongside the veteran Sathyaraj.
We catch up with Anumol for a short chat on ONI.
“I got to know director Vijay during one of my flight trips and later he called me to find out if I was interested to do a role in the Tamil remake of Shutter. I had seen the Malayalam version many times but I was not sure if I would be able to pull off such a heavy role that Vijay was mentioning. But Vijay is ever motivating and he encouraged me that I can do it. That’s how I got ONI. Later I came to know that Joy Mathew, who directed Shutter in Malayalam, had also referred my name.
Ninety percent of my scenes are with Sathyaraj sir. He is a legend. It would definitely sound clichéd but the truth is that he was very supportive and caring. He taught me my dialogues and used to discuss the next day's scenes with me. I also used to talk about my projects with him and seek his advice.
Director Anthony is one of the coolest directors that I have worked with. He is very sharp and knows exactly what he wants. Therefore it was a breeze working in ONI with him.
I am very choosy about my scripts and look for few things in a project. My role should have some relevance in the film and my character should have space to perform. It should have value and respect. I also look at the team if I would be comfortable with them. To me art or commercial does not matter”.
We wish you the best Anumol!
