Editor Prawin Pudi Interview

It’s well-known that 24 has a time travel screenplay. With editing being the most crucial aspect of it, how did you handle this challenge?

It is difficult to paraphrase but practically Vikram Kumar sir made it easy for me!

It is difficult to paraphrase but practically Vikram Kumar sir made it easy for me. He helped me all the way by planning out every stage of the production. On the editing table I faced difficulty because it was off and on between phases of the actor’s life. Coming forward and going backward often by the central character made it complicated but Vikram sir’s guidance was most helpful.

3 hours duration for a science fiction film- was it a challenge?

Chemistry between Suriya and Samantha stood out in the frames

Generally editors advise director and team to chop off scenes but with 24 I requested them to keep all the scenes because each one of them was sculpted well thereby it was a total role reversal here. Majorly I wanted to keep all of the scenes because they were made so well. Chemistry between Suriya and Samantha stood out in the frames so I wanted to keep it despite the already existing long duration of the movie.

About your association with director Vikram Kumar?

I consider it a blessing to be working with him.

Vikram Kumar sir is more of a friend than a colleague. He is a very happy person and motivates me all the time. Whenever I feel low, I go for a chit-chat with him and after spending time he helps me bounce back better than before.  I consider it a blessing to be working with him.

After the posters of 24 grabbed eyeballs, expectations were quite high for the movie. How did you handle the pressure?

The crew was well-prepared for a soaring response.

The crew was well-prepared for a soaring response. So there was no such pressure but we worked harder and motivated because our efforts were being well-appreciated.

With Tirru sir taking care of the camera, was it difficult chopping off scenes from the movie?

Tirru sir’s frames were picturesque and trimming them was indeed a difficult task to do.

(laughs) Actually I wanted to keep all the scenes that was in production because I felt each and every frame is essential keeping in mind the essence of the story. Tirru sir’s frames were picturesque and trimming them was indeed a difficult task to do.

What do you think are the possibilities for a 24 sequel to happen?

There are possibilities that it might happen and as I already said it’s up for grabs but it will definitely happen.

I would say that the hold rests completely with Vikram Kumar sir. There are possibilities that it might happen and as I already said it’s up for grabs but it will definitely happen.

How was the transition of working in Telugu industry to now working in Tamil industry?

In fact I never felt the transition, thanks to 2D Entertainment. They gave me a lot of time and supported me throughout the process which is wonderful indeed. He concludes with, “I would like to thank my director Vikram Kumar, Rahman sir and Suriya sir for the wonderful opportunity. Working on this project was like a dream come true and I am euphoric about it. Thank you once again!”
